Study visit to Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition (VSSE)
M.Tech in Geomatics (2022-2024), CEPT University

Students of M.Tech Geomatics, CEPT University and M G Science Institute visited Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition (VSSE), Ahmedabad for a study visit on 07th September 2022 (Wednesday).

The session started with welcome speech by Dr. Shaily Gandhi, Program Chair, M.Tech Geomatics, FT, CEPT and Joint Secretary, ISRS-AC followed by small interactive talk from Mr. Senthil Kumar, Chairman, ISRS-AC about the ISRO and ISRS - Ahmedabad Chapter.

A video ‘Antariksh ki khoj' was played which contained a brief history and journey about ISRO and its space missions.
An interactive session with Dr. Gaurav V. Jain, was organized by Indian Society of Remote Sensing - Ahmedabad Chapter (ISRS-AC), to deliver insights to the students about the Applications of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) for Urban Areas.

Dr. Gaurav V. Jain presented different aspects in which GIS and Remote Sensing can be useful in urban level. He explained the importance of Remote Sensing and GIS in analysing Urban population, sprawl, challenges in urbanization, lack of infrastructure, densification of core area, unemployment, traffic problems, natural disasters, etc., He also mentioned about how we should approach spatially heterogenic Regional plan, Developmental plan and Zonal plan with remote sensing. Further, Dr. Gaurav listed and explained about few GIS and RS projects that are being done by ISRS like Analysing the Hydrology of a City, Urban Flood at Vadodara, Drainage project at Surat, 3D volumetric change at Bhopal, Assessment of built environment, Rooftop shadow analysis using 3D city model, Travel speed analysis with GPS at Surat.

Dr. Gaurav ended the session with a note to the students that they should use the available technologies like Remote Sensing, Artificial Intelligence, etc., and work for the betterment of India through technology. The insightful session was followed by question-and-answer session.

Later-on the students were guided by the ‘Science Communicator’ about the models and exhibits displayed at VSSE.

The students went through all the exhibits at VSSE and discussed them in groups. They were very gratified about the whole experience at Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition (VSSE), Ahmedabad.
