Outreach Activity to Zydus School

ISRS Ahmedabad chapter had taken an initiative for Outreach Program to school level and particularly keeping in mind the students of 8th to 12th standard. The main aim towards this outreach program is to interact and engage with students on remote sensing & GIS; and make them aware about the current scenario and upcoming opportunities in this domain.

In this context, ISRS-AC made its maiden visit to Zydus School for Excellence, Godhavi, Ahmedabad on October 18, 2022. The members of ISRS-AC executive committee (Dr. M Senthil Kumar, Chairman; Dr. D.R. Rajak, Secretary; Dr. Shaily Gandhi, Joint Secretary; Dr. Shard Chander, Treasurer; Sh. Manish, Member) and Dr. A.S. Arya, Head, Planetary Science Division, Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, were present in the event.

The event was planned for informative videos on ISRO’s planetary missions, a presentation on basics of remote sensing and GIS, followed by question-answer session. Dr. D.R. Rajak gave introductory remark, this was followed by the video of ISRO’s mars and moon missions. Further, Dr. Senthil, Group Director, SAC, gave a presentation, covering basics of remote sensing & GIS, types of satellites, satellite orbit, data and resolution. This was followed by briefing by Dr. A. S. Arya on ISRO’s planetary missions. There were quite a few interesting questions by students, covering topics viz. gravity, satellites, upcoming missions, etc. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Shard Chander. The management of Zydus school appreciated the efforts of ISRS-AC and also discussed possibilities of further association.
